Design and Operation
Most water supply systems in developing countries fail within five years of construction. Some fail in as little as one year after construction. Designing water supply systems for long-term effectiveness and operation is a focus of WWW. With approximately 40 years of experience in the design, operation and maintenance of community water supply systems, World Water Watch experts (expert pool) look closely at community needs and capabilities in constructing and maintaining potable water systems. Working with community partners, a water council is established which oversees and supports long-term sustainable potable water supply systems. WWW develops improved design methods, system performance indicators and training activities, all directed to support community water council goals and water supply system reliability for many years in the future.
Key elements of WWW’s program are the development and distribution of WEB-based design, and training and support modules utilized by field-based World Water Watch staff and partner organizations. This support system covers all levels of communication, from computer-assisted modules, to field-based manuals and equipment.
